After listening to the CID lesson on Friday, I realised that there are really many people out in the world that are suffering very badly from poverty, which is more than what I expected, as I believed that the modernizing world was already free from the problem of poverty. During the lesson, there was a slide with a picture of a black kid that was abandoned in the wild and was trying to kill himself. That made me find that poverty was a horrible killer, as it forced those poor people to want to kill themselves so as to end their own misery. In another slide, there were two pictures featuring a woman and a man. The man was carrying a signboard that said that he was homeless and broke, and needed a few cents so as to make some phones calls to his relatives. As for the woman, she was trying to sell something to a man. At first look, I looked down on the man straight away as I thought he was able-bodied yet he still was begging for money. For the woman, on the other hand, I pitied her as she was carrying a baby yet she had to try and sell stuff to people to earn money. That is why when the teacher asked us who we would give our money to, I straight away chose that I would give my money to the woman. However, after knowing more details about the picture, I realized that my judgement was completely wrong. The man only had one hand so he was unable to work. The woman, instead, was from a group of syndicates that cheated people's money by gaining their pity, which made me despise her, as no matter how much we need money, we should earn it with our own ability. Therefore, after finding out the truth of the matter, I changed my decision and decided that I would give the money to the man.
